We're excited to introduce A1, Minut's first smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, built specifically for short-term rentals. A1 tests itself automatically between bookings, alerts you the moment it's tampered with or removed, and keeps a compliance log of each alarm's status, so you can see at a glance whether your alarms were working for every stay. For hosts and property managers, that means real confidence that every guest is protected, without having to add another manual check to every turnover.
Traditional smoke alarms are designed with a typical home in mind, where the same people live every day and will notice a chirping low-battery warning. But short-term rentals don't work like that. Instead, they welcome a new group of guests every few days, often unfamiliar with the property, and they’re vacant between stays.
That means unless hosts have a process in place to check every device between every stay, an alarm that's been removed, disabled, or has run out of battery could go unnoticed for weeks or even months, leaving guests unprotected in the meantime.
A1 has been designed around that difference from the ground up. It meets UL 217 and UL 2034 standards, meeting the same safety requirements as traditional certified smoke and CO alarms. But A1 also goes further than a standard alarm: it keeps you informed even when you're not on site, so you always know your properties are protected, from one booking to the next.
Having smoke and CO alarms installed is an essential first step, but it's only part of the picture. What really matters is knowing that those alarms are working for every single stay. With traditional alarms, that relies on someone physically testing each device by hand before every booking, which is difficult to keep up with across a busy calendar or a large portfolio.
Imagine a low-battery alert starting to chirp in the middle of the night, or a piece of burnt toast setting off the alarm during breakfast. It's completely understandable that a guest might take the detector down or pull out the battery to stop the noise, and just as understandable that they might forget to mention it when they check out the next day. The problem is that the next guest is unprotected against smoke and CO, and nobody knows.
That scenario is what A1 has been designed for, and this is what separates it from a traditional smoke and CO alarm:
You can interconnect up to 10 A1 alarms, so when one sounds, they all do. In large or multi-story properties, this helps to ensure that no guest is too far away from an alarm to hear it. It also tracks temperature and humidity, giving you a clearer picture of conditions inside your property between stays.
A1 does everything you'd expect from a smoke and CO alarm, and a lot more on top. Self-testing, tamper alerts, and a built-in compliance log mean guests are better protected, and you spend less time on manual checks and site visits, which makes safety one less thing to worry about at every turnover.
A1 can work as a standalone device like a traditional smoke and CO alarm, and it doesn’t require syncing to any other Minut device. If you already have a Minut plan, A1 can be added to it without affecting the price of your subscription, and sits right alongside your other devices in the app. It's currently available for purchase in the US.
