Why noise management matters

In 2022, Noosa became the first council in Queensland to introduce a Short-stay Local Law, which places specific obligations on operators around noise, complaint response, and local availability. Here's what you need to know.

You have 30 minutes to respond to a complaint

Every short-stay property must have a designated contact person available 24/7, within 20km of the property, who must respond to noise and other complaints within 30 minutes. Failing to respond can result in a fine and, for repeat breaches, loss of approval.

Noise problems escalate faster than you think 

A guest who doesn’t realize they’re being loud, a pool party that runs late, a group in a ground-floor apartment. By the time a neighbor calls the hotline, it’s already logged.

A complaint without evidence is your word against theirs

When a noise dispute reaches the council or a licence review, documented records of what actually happened carry weight. Operators without them have little to stand on.
