How to get started

The installation should only take 15 minutes or less.

1. Download the app

  • Download the Minut app from the Google Play Store or iOS App Store.
  • Open the app and create your account. If you already have an account, just open the Minut app and log in.
  • Create your unit following the steps in the app.

Is someone else installing the device?

Ensure they have Owner, Admin or Member level user access to the unit.

2. Mounting the device

  • Gently remove the lid from the main device base by pushing in the side latches.
  • Plug in your cable(s) as per your configuration. You may use a cable tie to secure the cabling in place (optional).
  • Secure the device directly onto a junction box or ceiling, at least 11 in (30 cm) away from any walls, and fasten it through the mounting holes.
  • Note: Keep the device lid off until the next steps are complete.

3. In-app configuration

  • In the Minut app, navigate to the unit you are installing the device in. Scroll down to Device and tap "+" to add a new device.
  • Select Minut E1-N Air & Noise Sensor to start installation. The app will automatically find the device if it is nearby.
  • Pop the lid back on the device base. The installation is now complete!

Where should I install my sensor?

We recommend installing Minut in the area where people are likely to gather.

For apartment units, this may be the middle of the main living room area, communal hallways, or other areas where noise, smoking, and/or climate is a concern.

Selecting location

Minut E1-N requires a permanent power source (USB-C, AC Mains, or PoE) and network connection (wireless, LAN, or PoE).

The device can fit onto most standard junction boxes or it can be installed direct-to-structure.

Indoor use only. Do not install in bathrooms, porches or other areas exposed to condensation, water, direct sunlight.

Leave at least 11 in (30 cm) gap between any walls or corners. For best results, place the device on the ceiling near the centre of the room.

Keep the area directly beneath the device clear within a 16 in (40 cm) radius. Avoid placing lamps, shelves, or other high objects directly underneath the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a new device to an existing home?

In the mobile app, go to the Homes tab and pick the home you want to add your device to. Scroll down to the “Devices” section and press the + sign to add a new device.

How do I turn the sensor on? Where is the power button?

There’s a button on the back of the sensor. You need to press it until you hear a beep.

Do I need to use Bluetooth to install the alarm?

No, you don’t need Bluetooth to install the sensor. You will just need to scan the QR code, so make sure to allow the Minut app to use your phone camera.

Can I use the Minut L1 Water Leak Sensor on its own?

No, Minut L1 Water Leak Sensor needs to installed within 32 ft (10 m) from the Minut M2/M3 Noise & Occupancy Sensor to work.

How do I use the Minut API?

In order to have a custom integration, you will need access to Minut's API. Minut's API is available on our Pro plan subscription. You can read more about custom integrations with the Minut API here.

How can I upgrade my plan?

You can manage your plan in the My Account section of our web app. Navigate to the Plan, Billing & Payments tab, then scroll down and click on Change Plan.

How can I update the Wi-Fi settings?

Minut L1 connects to Minut M2 or M3 via Bluetooth. It does not connect to Wi-Fi directly.

You can update your Wi-Fi settings for the M2 and M3 sensors in the mobile app:

  1. Open the Minut app, and navigate to the Properties tab.
  2. Select the unit that you want to update the Wi-Fi setting for.
  3. Scroll down to the “Devices” section.
  4. Tap the Minut device you want to update Wi-Fi settings for.
  5. Navigate to Advanced settings and press the “Update Wi-Fi settings” button.
  6. Follow the instructions in the app.
